A delicious way to give back

Updated: May 31, 2022

Meadville's Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship held a Meadville Heritage event on Saturday, April 23. The event was called Savor for Scholars and featured foods from around the world to showcase the many different backgrounds of the people of Meadville.

Rianna Czech and I co-sponsored this event. I know I speak for both of us when I say that I am so proud and humbled to have been surrounded by such an amazing group of people, the people of our area.

I was delighted to meet Dr. Armendia Dixon, the scholarship fund's president. Though our words were brief, I found her to be an absolute joy and am excited to work with her more.

Along with Ria and myself, my daughter Meadow, husband Lee, and Ria's volunteer manager Reilly Burke and his significant other were in attendance.

Not only did the event feature delicious international food, but the displays were also educational and eye-catching. There were features from India, Ireland, Poland, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, and more. Awards were given for taste test, most attractive, and most informative. The crowd was able to participate in a 50/50 drawing, basket raffles, and a live auction. Meadow - the only member of our party to win anything - even got to take home a gift basket worth nearly $100.

All in all, the event was a winner, but not as much as the students that it will benefit. What a fantastic way to bring the community together and show just how diverse our community is.
